Job Opportunity
AGRIWIN Ltd., under the Promoting Smallholder Agro-export Competitiveness Project (PSAC) co-financed by the Government of Rwanda and IFAD, is implementing a Farmer Field School (FFS) program targeting avocado and mango smallholder farmers in the districts of Huye, Nyanza, Rusizi, Bugesera, and Rwamagana.
The main objective of this assignment is to provide technical and facilitation support to Farmer Field Schools by delivering participatory training, mentoring lead farmers, and ensuring effective adoption of improved avocado and mango production and post-harvest practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate regular FFS sessions using participatory approaches (AESA)
- Deliver training modules aligned with the avocado and mango cropping calendar
- Support integration of Farming as a Business (FaaB) into FFS sessions
- Mentor and coach Lead Farmers to effectively facilitate FFS groups
- Provide technical backstopping on orchard management, IPM, soil fertility, and post-harvest handling
- Support establishment and management of FFS demonstration plots
- Guide farmers in conducting field experiments and interpreting results
- Collect and report data on training sessions, farmer participation, and adoption of practices
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly reports
- Ensure gender, youth, and disability inclusion targets are met
experience that will be considered
- At least A2 certificate in Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Production or related field
- Proven experience with Farmer Field School (FFS) or participatory training approaches (advantage)
- Experience working with smallholder farmers and rural communities
- Knowledge of avocado and/or mango production systems
- Understanding of integrated pest management (IPM) and post-harvest handling
- Familiarity with climate-smart agriculture practices
- Adult learning, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English`
